Martí Roca Ecològic S.C.P just won the award for the Best Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil of the Valencian Community. It has been the Regués variety, of the brand Lo Canetà, the winner of this edition of the ESAO Awards in its corresponding category.
The contest, organized by the Superior School of Olive Oil (SSOO) and the Organic Farming Committee of the Valencian Community (OFCVC), seeks to highlight the value of best EVOO in Spain. To this end, this 2021 the ecological oils have been assessed for the first time within a specialty of their own.
The Regués oil of Lo Canetà comes from traditional and millenary rainfed olive groves, located in Canet Lo Roig (Castellón). It is a high quality product harvested at veraison and with bitter and spicy flavors that give it a strong personality. Another one of Martí Roca’s varieties, the Farga, is also among the finalists.
A project that continues to grow
Juanjo Martí y David Roca are the two young farmers who, continuing the family legacy, are in charge of this project. In 2019 they received the CAECV organic certificate and, since then, they have not stopped growing, as the president of the entity points out José Antonio Rico.
“They are a clear example of the evolution and the pattern that is happening in the organic sector in recent years: young people who join the agricultural activity following the family tradition and helping to keep alive and active the most disadvantaged rural areas of the interior of our territory”.
